Group tours are available in German for pre-booked groups of more than 6 people (2 weeks in advance). Alternatively, our guides are also skilled at presenting, so tours can be easily translated by your own interpreter.

Pre-booked groups can arrange an “Behind The Scenes” tour of the breeding laboratory, which houses up to 4,000 caterpillars. This interesting and educational option takes an additional 20 to 30 minutes, and provides an opportunity to view first hand the breeding laboratory through special viewing window.

The guide shows the caterpillars in varying stages of development. To continuously stock the Butterfly Sanctuary, the laboratory staff collect and sterilise eggs, "hand raising" the caterpillars right through to the chrysalis stage, until they are released as butterflies into the Sanctuary.
