TUESDAY 3RD JULY 2007
The Australian Butterfly Sanctuary in Kuranda is celebrating its landmark 20th year of operation with a change of ownership.
The largest live butterfly exhibit in Australia was fully owned and operated by Paul and Sue Wright from 1st July 1987 until June 2005, when Charles and Pip Woodward of The CaPTA Group purchased a one half share of the business from them.
The Australian Butterfly Sanctuary's 3666 cubic metre aviary is home to over 1500 magnificent tropical butterflies, all local to the area, including the electric blue Ulysses butterfly and the largest butterfly in Australia, the Cairns Birdwing.
The aviary was officially opened by Lady Flo Bjelke-Petersen in 1987 and has been visited by over a million people since.
The Australian Butterfly Sanctuary currently has 18 staff members and is open every day except Christmas Day from 9:45 am to 4:00 pm.
CaPTA Managing Director Charles Woodward said whilst they had purchased the remaining share of the business on the 1st July 2007, Paul Wright will be retained as a Consultant for the business.
“Paul has extensive knowledge and experience in the day-to-day operations of the Sanctuary, and we are certainly more than happy to continue our close working relationship with him so that the operation continues to be a great success,” he said.
The CaPTA Group is having a launch on Monday 9th July from 4:00pm to 5:30pm at the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary, Rob Veivers Drive, Kuranda.
